The Inside View
What does a typical day look like in your team?
“The Technical Operations department of NBC Universal works closely with all other departments to ensure that our television channels are delivered exactly as intended to our customers worldwide. From content supply, to language translation, playout and finally beaming to the satellite my team is directly involved at all stages of broadcasting a television channel.
Running an international broadcast operation requires a high degree of collaboration with our internal customers and external suppliers and so communication skills are vital in maintaining reliable and smooth operations. Resource planning, both short-term and long-term, is required to ensure new channel launches and other initiatives are provided on time.
Given the complexity and scale of these operations we have to be ready to expect the unexpected, where seemingly random events can cause an on-air disruption and our realtime problem solving skills are bought to the fore. In operations our decisions and actions can have a direct impact to the channel, which brings with it responsibility but also the satisfaction of knowing that we made a difference.”
